Lake Serene is one of my favorite hikes and one of my first snow hikes when I moved to Western Washington. It starts off relaxing and eases you to a gentle climb to Bridal Veil Falls. This time, we elected to skip the fork to the falls since we started late. The only real hint that this was going to be a tough (but wonderful) hike up was the rock wall face.

It starts with craggy and uneven footings
But even among the evergreens, it gets ominous with the first of twenty switchbacks. The craggy and uneven surface immediately test your footing and hiking boots.

It’s getting tough and your legs and back are starting to ache (at least mine are). But the views on this hike is a showcase why I call Western Washington home. The view is blissfully relaxing and beautiful that you almost forget the pain of the hike.

Finally, we’re at Lake Serene!
But when you finally get there, it’s completely worth it. The view is gorgeous and can only be described as … serene.

Even in the middle of summer during fire season, the views are wonderful and the air was surprisingly clean. Below is a picture of Lake Serene towards the falls about ten years earlier.

Lake Serene is filled up by nearby glaciers hence the water is crisp and clean.

The flowers are beautiful and the bees are our pollinating with the best toilet view ever
The best “seat” in the area
The spark of colors and buzz of bees can be striking among all the green.

And if nature calls, this is probably one of the best toilets with a view.
