In the search for pineapple cakes (鳳梨酥), my cousin Chianan brought us to a most interesting Taiwanese bakery in Taichung (台中), locally famous for these delectable desserts. For those unfamiliar with these beautiful snacks, let me grab a quote from another Taichung bakery known for them.
Pineapple cakes are a beloved Taiwanese snack that originated in the city of Taichung in the 1920s. Made with a buttery, crumbly pastry crust and filled with sweet, chewy pineapple jam, these cakes are a favorite throughout Taiwan and beyond.

It was confusing when we arrived at 日出大地的乳酪蛋糕 as this looked like yet another relaxing coffee shop.

But after wistfully sauntering through their garden coffee shop exterior, we walked into what looked like a music store instead. For example, below is shelf full of CDs which what appears to shout outs to classic Taiwanese music. If you take a peak on the bottom right of the photo, notice the different traditional Taiwanese sweets packed as CDs.
With vinyl album sales rising these days, I was happy to see “A Toast to the Past”! But if you dig further into this, you’ll realize vinyl record packing contains different types of tea! The following is Alishan Black tea posing as classic this classic Taiwanese music vinyl album.

Thankfully, we were satiated with a variety of pineapple cakes in all sorts of fun packing – below is a small selection CDs pineapple cakes.

So if you need great Taiwanese sweets and are in Taichung, check out 日出大地的乳酪蛋糕. Enjoy!
